Lido Burrone

Lido Burrone is Favignana''s best-known sandy beach, on the southern side of the island a short distance from the town. It is the stretch of coast that comes closest to the classic idea of a beach: pale sand, a gradual entry into the water and a seabed that stays shallow for several metres, with low rock at either end.

Because of that gentle profile it is the usual choice for anyone travelling with small children or wishing to avoid the rocky descents typical of the northern coves. The beach is easily reached from the town along the road heading south: the bicycle remains the island''s most practical means of transport, and the last stretch is covered on foot.

The western end of the beach is known as Punta Burrone, which is not a separate destination but the headland closing the bay: from there the water quickly becomes rockier, and it is the favourite spot for snorkelling close to shore.

Seasonal businesses, rentals and refreshment points vary from year to year and should be checked on site; for that reason this page does not list unconfirmed facilities. In high season the beach can be busy, and early morning remains the quietest time.

Facing south, the shoreline is affected by southerly winds, which can ruffle the water and reduce its clarity; with northerly winds the sea is usually calmer. The island rule applies here too: check conditions before choosing where to spend the day.
