Favignana is an island: in an emergency always call 112 first — the operator activates rescue and, if needed, transfer to the mainland. For non-urgent problems outside GP hours, contact the out-of-hours medical service.

The pharmacy service follows shifts and opening hours that change during the year, especially between summer and winter. Always check current hours before travelling; for an urgent life-saving medicine call 112.

The "Isole Egadi" Marine Protected Area is one of the largest in the Mediterranean and protects seabeds, Posidonia oceanica meadows, caves and marine species. It is divided into zones with different protection levels: the same activity may be free, allowed only with a permit, or forbidden depending on the zone.

• Zone B — general reserve: some activities allowed, often with rules or a permit
• Zone C — partial reserve: broader rules, always respecting the environment
• Zone D — where applicable, protection of specific habitats and activities

Many island businesses accept card payments, but it is wise to carry some cash: kiosks, markets, some seasonal services and remote areas may not have a stable connection for card terminals.

Favignana is small and mostly flat in the east, more demanding towards the west and Monte Santa Caterina. Your choice depends on distance, elevation and season.

Favignana lives off its sea and landscape: a few small habits make a real difference.

• Do not leave waste on beaches, trails or cliffs
• Do not collect sand, shells, pebbles or marine organisms
• Respect Posidonia: on the shoreline it protects the beach, it is not dirt
• Use sunscreen carefully and rinse before entering the water where indicated
• Keep noise down in the evening and in residential areas
• Do not light fires: wildfire risk is high in summer
• Stay on marked trails and do not disturb wildlife
• Respect bans and signage in protected areas

Waste collection in Favignana is separated and follows a calendar set by the Municipality, which can change between summer and winter. If you stay in accommodation, follow the instructions given by your host.

Many of Favignana's coves are rocky, with no shade and no facilities. A little planning avoids most problems.

• Responsible snorkelling: look without touching or collecting

The town centre and the port area of Favignana are mostly flat and walkable. Many coves, however, are reached via dirt roads, steps or rocky descents. Information on access to the sea is not uniform: where it is not verified, we do not present a cove as accessible.
