Palazzo Florio: in short
Palazzo Florio stands in the harbour area of Favignana, a short distance from the former tuna factory. It was built for Ignazio Florio in the second half of the nineteenth century as the family's residence on the island, during the years when the Florios had acquired the Egadi tuna traps and turned the business into an industrial operation.
The building stands apart from the rest of the village for its layout and its neo-Gothic architectural language, with a turret, battlements and decoration that make it one of the most recognisable buildings on the seafront.
Together with the tuna factory, the palace shows how much weight the Florio family carried in Favignana's history: not only economically, but also in the shaping of the island's urban fabric.
